I looked down the corridor at the dark, dirt tunnel of death and doom. It was claustrophobic. Even worse was the thought that Lou Salgusta might be waiting at the other end.
We walked a short distance and the tunnel curved. The single lightbulb disappeared from view and there was only blackness in front of us and behind us.
Salgusta, I thought. Maybe someone else. Hard to tell in the dark. The tunnel came to a T-intersection. I flashed the light in both directions and saw nothing but endless dark tunnel.
I went right, following the footprints. Lord help me, I got them all over me! I bit into my lip to keep from screaming and moved forward.
First the tarantulas and rats and then the snakes. I want to see the light. Where the heck is the light? It smells like kerosene or gasoline or something.
I flashed the light at the dots. I was saving them for whatever more horrible, more ferocious creatures might be lurking in the dark.
Alligators or a slimy mud monster or Lou Salgusta. I saw a flicker of light far down the tunnel. Flames licked at the ground in front of a monstrous fireball and raced toward us.
I turned and shoved Lula. A swarm of rats were also running for their lives, squealing beside us. Humanity is on the brink of war as imperialist nations in the Far East and Europe work aggressively to expand their domination.
The Nazis have taken control of Germany and now spread darkness across the globe in their hunt for powerful occult artifacts that can give them the upper hand in the days to come.
This was one of those times. I was in a tunnel under a strip club, and I was with my coworker, Lula.
Not that I know firsthand. They were currently snug inside my sports bra, going along for the ride, and not paying attention to much of anything.
Nothing new, but that's just fine with me. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, all opinions are my own.
This was so disappointing. It's basically a re-hash of every other book. Cars blow up, Morelli is on and off and Ranger is in the romance mix, Lula has hair and clothing malfunctions and the plot is so full of holes you could drive a bus through.
A new character is introduced who will get her own series, which makes no sense when the Lizzy and Diesel series is only half done.
I guess I'm sick of the same plot in 27 books and would like some growth or closure. In my ideal world there would be a This was so disappointing.
In my ideal world there would be a finale with two books - a Ranger ending and a Morelli ending. Then Janet can focus on her other series and write them herself.
Oct 13, Linden rated it liked it Shelves: advance-review-copy. Grandmas late husband allegedly knew the last clue to locate something valuable that his elderly mobster cronies want, and they are determined to get the information, even though Grandma swears she hasnt got it.
Since these retired hitmen are, according to the locals, batshit crazy, they will stop at nothing, including firebombing, kidnapping, and murder. Two new characters are introduced: George, a neurotic nerdy sidekick for Stephanie, and Gabriela, an exotic woman of mystery who may or may not be dating Morelli.
Does another car get blown up? Has Stephanie finally chosen one of two tempting men? You can probably guess!
Thanks to the publisher and to Edelweiss for the ARC. Jul 11, Gail O'Connor rated it liked it. Typical J. Evanovich book. You are never bored and constantly entertained.
This story circles around Grandma Mazer's newly deceased husband. Evanovich can't write a bad novel. Love her to bits. View 1 comment.
Nov 13, Elizabeth rated it really liked it Shelves: in-the-us , mystery. Fun and crazyness in New Jersey with the whole gang.
Anyone know why title is Fortune and Glory? It does have Tantalizing Twenty Seven on the bottom of cover.
Nov 07, Anita rated it it was amazing Shelves: mystery-thriller-suspense. As a grandmother to four very different granddaughters, I often wonder which one is going to be my Stephanie?
Which one will I drag into various enterprises that will drive their mother to drink? Which one will support me and love me without question? Which one will end up with a Joe or Ranger that I can appreciate?
Just like Stephanie this time around is thinking a lot deeper that normal. These questions lurk in the recesses of my mind. Stephanie is off-again with Joe and in Ranger's bed.
Lucky As a grandmother to four very different granddaughters, I often wonder which one is going to be my Stephanie?
Lucky girl. But, she knows that this is going nowhere for her, but I wonder about that. Ranger has stuck through on-again, off-again Joe, Stephanie being a bounty hunter with limited success and their relationship is solid - when Stephanie needs him, Ranger is always there.
We get some new characters and I fell instantly in love with George Potts. Gabriela Rose is an interesting character and she is going to be the star of a new Janet Evanovich Series coming July, I can't wait.
Twenty-Six ended with a treasure hunt on the horizon and "Fortune and Glory" takes us on that adventure, Stephanie Plum style.
Grandma Mazur is all about finding the La-Z-Boy's treasure and Stephanie has caught the treasure hunt fever too. But, a girl still has to pay the bills while hunting treasure.
Her skips include a nasty fry cook who enjoys serving up fried cockroaches to his ex, a disgusting fake botox doctor and a clueless guy with digestive and other problems.
The treasure hunt takes them through the tunnels beneath Trenton and on the run from the last two La-Z-Boys, one who wants to use his flame thrower on them and the other who just wants to shoot them, after they torture to treasure information out of them.
Ranger has his hands full keeping Stephanie in cars, I think she managed to destroy three this time around, and keeping her alive. Morelli appears to have moved on with the mysterious and very talented Gabriela Rose, but looks can be deceiving.
Sep 22, Jenn rated it it was ok Shelves: arc , own. Stephanie is channeling her inner Indiana Jones as she searches for Grandma's recently deceased new husband's treasure that he shares with his cohort of sleazy, low-rent mobsters.
I got this digital ARC via Edelweiss. Evanovich usually doesn't have her books available as ARCs, so I was surprised to see this one pop up the other day.
I have long ago gave up on buying these books. Stephanie and Lula humiliate themselves as they track down FTAs that were Stephanie is channeling her inner Indiana Jones as she searches for Grandma's recently deceased new husband's treasure that he shares with his cohort of sleazy, low-rent mobsters.
Stephanie and Lula humiliate themselves as they track down FTAs that were arrested for ridiculous things. Lula is always hungry and sassy. Grandma goes to the funeral home.
Stephanie's mom drinks a. Stephanie sleeps with either Ranger or Morelli and lists after the other. Oh, and she wrecks at least 3 cars, to no fault of her own.
This one is no different. I would not pay to read these. But they are sometimes a little funny and they're a super quick read. Yeah, I just This wasn't good.
Nov 16, Erica Chaillot rated it it was amazing. This Stephanie Plum book had a different feel to it. I feel that Stephanie is finally realizing that she is at crossroads and she is about ready to make some serious decisions.
I am noticing some character growth and I will be happy to follow her further as she matures. View all 6 comments. Jenna Hmm.. Nicole I saw the first sentence of your review and went wait, am I reading my review?
Nov 30, Scott rated it liked it. An independent, pretty girl, a couple of hunky guys Moretti and Ranger - to team up with, and an adventure full of mystery and silly zaniness.
Solving the mystery usually involves visiting different locations, lots of overwhelmingly crazy characters especially Grandma Mazur , and comical situations throughout the quest.
An independent, pretty girl, a couple of hunky guys — Moretti and Ranger - to team up with, and an adventure full of mystery and silly zaniness.
There is lots of teasing and innuendo between the Stephanie and the hunky guys as they work together, but in the end the mystery will be resolved whether on purpose or by accident within pages of reading.
The formula is the same, tried and true. Evanovich gets you to chuckle at least once every other page and laugh out loud at least once a chapter.
However, Evanovich has changed it up a bit by creating a multi-book arc. Gabriela Rose is a dark-haired beauty that is athletic, smart, able to defend herself, and has a strong taste for designer clothes.
In other words, the normal salad mix of crazy that comes with a Stephanie Plum adventure. What you ask? I shall do my best to explain why. The clues actually made sense when they were figured out, which was a pleasing touch.
In addition, the storyline was more fluid and smoother than normal. Two dangerous enemies from the past stand in their way—along with a new adversary who's even more formidable: Gabriela Rose, a dark-eyed beauty from Little Havana with a taste for designer clothes.
She's also a soldier of fortune, a gourmet cook, an expert in firearms and mixed martial arts—and someone who's about to give Stephanie a real run for her money.
Stephanie may be in over her head, but she's got two things that Gabriela doesn't: an unbreakable bond with her family ISBN Send-to-Kindle or Email Please login to your account first Need help?
